World Meteorological Day: Individuals Called on to stop Pollution and Other Negative Vices

World Meteorological Day is celebrated on March 23 each year to commemorate climate change and its associated risk factors on individuals.

This year’s celebration is on the theme “Early Warning and Early Action”, and highlights the vital importance of Hydro meteorological and Climate Information for disaster risk reduction as well as investing in disaster reduction for resilience.

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMA) is this year focusing on finding solutions to the country’s water and agricultural problems to be prepared and be able to act at the right time and in the right place to save lives and protect the livelihoods of communities everywhere, both now and in the future.

Speaking in an interview with the Regional Meteorologist for the Western and Western North regions, Christian Aryee, he said due to climate change, there have been some changes in the major and minor rainy seasons, which has thrown the previous seasonal calendar off the chart.

He mentioned cutting of trees, air pollution through the burning of tyres, rubbish and several others as major factors causing health and environmental risk to the climate.

” Cutting down trees is undesirable, when people put a stop to it, our climate would be enhanced. Burning of tyres and rubbish contributes to the destruction of the climate and the artisans at Kokompe are the worst culprits,” he said.

He, therefore, urged all individuals to protect the environment by desisting from activities that harm and negatively affect the climate.
