Educationist advocates review of Free SHS to target interest of needy families

An Educationist, Aheto Tsegah has reiterated the need for the government to review the Free Senior High School policy to cater for the educational needs of the poorest in society.

He noted that the egalitarian approach of the government towards the policy where regardless of one’s financial status benefits from the programme has not been helpful.

Mr Tsegah said this in an interview with the media in Accra.

The Government’s Flagship Programme, the Free SHS, has come under intense scrutiny due to lack of finance.

Government cautioned on Free SHS

Mr Tsegah cautioned the government not to create the impression that all Ghanaians cannot afford Senior High education and require such intervention.

He said individuals who can pay the bills must be allowed to do so in order to reduce the pressure on the government.

Government intervention

It can be recalled that the Ministry of Information on Monday, March 21, 2022 announced steps taken by the government to review some flagship programmes should be protected and fully implemented to ensure that the impact is achieved.
