Let’s improve on collaborations between Region and District for development – Philip Nyarko

The Assembly member of the Effia electoral area in the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA), Mr. Philip Nyarko has lamented on the gap in communication between the Regional and District/Municipal leadership in the region.

Mr. Nyarko in an interview with Spice FM on the sidelines of shortfalls in his community mentioned the poor communication system which exists between region and district in terms of development.

According to him, sometimes there’s no collaborations with regards to developmental works executed by the regional leadership in some of assembly ares with a particular district . He cited that most often Assembly and committee members are not consulted when such works are to be undertaken.

Mr. Nyarko recounted that the region initiate works at the blind side of the Assembly member.

“Before undertaking any developmental works in an electoral area, the Assembly member should be given a prior notice. This would help in easy execution of developmental works, “he said.

He is of the view that the region and the district is supposed to work hand – in hand to foster development in the region citing that the Regional urban roads initiate work without the knowledge of the district urban roads.

“The regional urban roads initiated a project in my community without the notice of the district engineer. This is not done anywhere. The aim is to help in making the region better,” he stated.

Background

Mr. Philip Nyarko when asked why a drainage system which runs from Summer Lodge Area into the Effia Township was halfway dredged last December gave an explanation that ,the contractor was given a limit to work within.

He noted that the contractor worked within the orders given, thus, dredged the drain from Summer Lodge Area through to the Washing Bay Area being part of his electoral area.

He made mention of some works to be undertaken in his electoral area such the fixing of a deplorable state of some electrical poles, which poses as a threat to members of the community, adding that contractors would be on site to fix broken bridges.

“I have drawn the attention of Electricity Company to the state of the electric pole because it poses danger to the residents. For the repairing of the bridge is a bigger project, it is a capital intensive project.” he stated.

Touching on the challenges in his community, he stated that irresponsible way of dumping refuse especially during the rainy season is worrying. He said, the Assembly has plans of acquiring a central waste bin to curb the reckless disposing off waste.
