EKMA To Fix 230 Streets Lights To Improve Security Ahead Of Festive Season

The Municipal Chief Executive of Effia Kwesimintsim, Hon Kojo Acquah has said that over 230 street lights have been handed over to the Works Departments of the Assembly to improve the lighting system on the streets to reduce crime during the festive season.

He made this known when he delivered his speech at the fourth ordinary meeting of the second session of the Effia-Kwesiminstim Municipal Assembly held on Tuesday 21st December 2021.

According to him, previously the lights used to be given to the various Assembly Members to install but experience has thought the assembly that it’s rather better for the assembly members to bring their applications for consideration before deployment and fixing.

This forms part of security measures that have been taken by the Municipal Security Council on 9th December 2021 to enhance the security situation during the Christmas Festive.

He spoke about joint security patrols which are expected to ensure visible security presence to reduce crimes especially on the 24th and 25th of December and beyond.

Touching on other factors the assembly is currently putting in place to safeguard the festive season and protect lives, the MCE made mention of sensitisation of communities and market on the fire emergencies and safety, intensification of Police and Military patrols against COVID-19 especially at Christmas functions within EKMA by the COVID-19 Taskforce Team.

Meanwhile the Presiding officer of the assembly, John Davis has advocated for a shift system in the various homes to promote security.

He advised that it was better to ensure that at least one person will be left behind in the house to scare away potential criminals who may take advantage of the season to break into people’s homes.
