Getting access to use Astro Turfs in Ghana has been hard in recent past. But it’s gradually becoming too common around us, as it has become easily accessible these days and Western Region and Sekondi Takoradi have enjoyed a fair share of the new normal.
Sekondi, Adiembra and Bankyease have all benefited and can now boast of an ultra modern Astro Turf same as Effiekuma which is a ‘drainage’ away from serving it’s purposes.
Effiekuma Police Park was a stone-sand pitch serving players in and around the District until GNPC injected thousands of Ghana Cedis through the Member of Parliament for Effia Constituency, Hon. Joseph Cudjoe but the Facility seems to lack some few touches to make it very complete such as Dressing room, Bench, quality wire mersh but the major of it all is the lack if drainage system to remove water off the pitch anytime there is a heavy down pour.
The facility becomes a (swimming pool) anytime it rains heavily and children around the area never hesitate to take advantage to swim because there is no proper fencing to prevent unauthorized persons.
There are a lot of cries and questions about the quality of work done on the facility comparing to that of Sekondi, Adiembra and Bankyease respectively as the investment seems to have been wasted and users wouldn’t mind having back their good old stone-sand pitch, Effiakuma Police Park.
Effiakuma deserves better and the current state of the Astro turf is nothing but a very horrible way of spending the tax payers money and the earlier it’s given the needed attention, the better.
