W/R: NARM-Gh Elect New Executives with a Call to Renew Commitment

The Western Regional branch of the National Association of Registered Midwives, Ghana (NARM-Gh) has held an election to elect new executive members to run the affairs of the Association in the region with a call to renew their commitment towards the profession.

Addressing delegates before the elections, Mrs Gladys Ampomah Ababio, Western Regional Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer implored the midwives to ‘smile on sight’ before clients and their families to comfort them, follow their passion, discharge their duties passionately and have compassion for clients so as to protect, secure and preserve lives.

She also urged them to demonstrate absolute commitment and professionalism in the discharge of their duties to the point of staying with their clients if need be just to make sure that lives are preserved, and further implored them to dress modestly and professionally as befitting a midwife.

However, she also called on women to prepare for pregnancy, attend hospital frequently, take their medications appropriately, avoid unprescribed medications and report any symptoms like swollen foot, frequent heart-beating, headache, dizziness and general weakness to the hospital as soon as possible.

She therefore commended midwives in the country for the role they have played in saving lives, especially in this pandemic era, and further commended midwives in the region for their commitment and dedication which saw the delivery of the first COVID-19 baby in the country.

Madam Doris Abban, National Industrial Relations Officer of the Association urged the delegates to rally behind the elected Executives towards the achievement of the vision enumerated by the Executives for the branch for which they voted for them.

She also urged the Executives to respect the views of the members and work hand-in-hand so as to make the Association attractive to canvas more members into the fold.

She charged them to keep their internal matters secret and if possible seek redress from the National Executives when necessary rather than resorting to sharing sentiments outside the Association to tarnish its image.

Madam Hannah Bondzie, newly elected Chairperson of NARM-Gh for the region said with the support of Executives, she will arrange for the purchase of vehicles for interested NARM-Gh contributors in the region of which deductions will be at source from the Controller and Accountant General.

She said her vision would be the acquisition of two (2) plots of land to build a regional office secretariat and a hostel which will be rented out to generate income for the Association while soliciting for funds and sponsorship to support the building of the secretariat and hostel.

She will also strive to secure an insurance and pension policy with a registered insurance company for members, secure lands for interested NARM-Gh contributors in the region with deductions being done at source from the Controller and Accountant General and represent NARM-Gh members in the region at the national level.

Among the members who were elected and sworn into office are Margaret Eshun (Regional Treasúre), Magdalene Boateng, (Deputy General Secretary), Eva Menze Mochiah (Industrial Relations Officer), Rejoice Eviam (Vice Chairperson), Gloria Tawiah (General Secretary) and Rita Yankey (Public Relations Officer).

The occasion was graced by Mr Jonathan Yelfaari, National Vice President of NARM-Gh and Madam Veronica Boateng Amankwah, National Deputy Secretary of the Association.
