Private Schools are No More Under GES-NSIA Calls on Schools to License Latest by December
The Executive Director of National Schools Inspection Authority Dr, Haggar Hilda Ampadu has said that Private Schools are no more under Ghana Education Service due to the passage of the Education Regulatory Bodies Act 2020(Act 1023) which makes NSIA regulator for both Public and Private Pre-tertiary education institutions.
The Education Regulatory Bodies Act came into force on August on 26th 2020. The law makes it possible for the National School and Inspection Regulatory Authority to oversee the activities of both Public, Private non Tertiary Schools and Non Terriary in Ihe area of Licensing, Monitoring, and Evaluation.
Ghana Education Service in the past has been performing supervisory role over the Private schools which many deem as conflict of interest, since GES is considered as proprietor of Public schools while owners of the Private school are also proprietors, a proprietor cannot supervise another proprietor therefore the need for a level playing field. The elevation and Transition of National Inspectorate Board (NIB) to National Schools Inspection Authority guarantees such an avenue.
Speaking at stakeholder engagement on school licensing requirements yesterday with GES, Headmasters and Proprietor of private schools in Western Region at Raybow Hotel, Takoradi, Dr. Haggar Hilda Ampadu threw more light on how the new development will offer a level playing field for GES and Private Proprietors.
“We are now in charge of all the schools and anything concerning Licensing and Inspection of Schools is going to be done by us. Ghana Education Service is a proprietor of public schools on behalf of government and Private school owners are alsseeo proprietors therefore a proprietor cannot be under another proprietor, this is to ensure a level playing field for all the Schools”
She urged the schools to avoid paying any money to officials who come for inspections at the various schools since the Authority has effective rewarding system for outstanding performers.
‘‘Do not give any money to any of our inspectors after they perform their duties we have internal rewarding system, all you have to do is to send us a mail to show appreciation to the inspector who visited your school.’’
Nana Amakah Otu, Inspection operations Manager in an exclusive interview with Spice News urged the schools to start the licenses process with the authority as soon as possible to avoid any penalty
“Failure to acquire licenses before by December could attract penalty within the ranges of 1000gh to 5000gh”.
Schools are expected to visit www.nasia.gov.gh, use the shortcode *790*7# or call 0302- 907-589, 0302-782-318/0545-732-688/0549137-015 to start the process.
The National Schools Inspectorate Authority per the Law aims to develop, publish, promote and enforce high quality standard and guidelines for quality education in the public and private pre-tertiary education institution.
