Public Cautioned To Be Security Conscious As Police Assures Public Safety In W/R
Western Regional Police Commander, DCOP Felix Fosu-Agyeman has reiterated that the Command is working around the clock to bring perpetrators of the recent robbery attacks to book and will also not leave no stone unturned to make sure that sufficient measures were put in place to maintain law and order in the region.
He also cautioned the public never to assume that nobody can victimize them because they are strong, highly religious, prayerful, smart, experienced, highly educated or respected, beautiful, well trained, physically strong or well armed.
“It doesn’t matter how well someone dresses or looks like or appears. Starting from home, treat everybody as a suspect mentally. Raise the level of your personal security”, he cautioned further.
DCOP Fosu-Agyeman gave the assurance at a press briefing held at the Regional Headquarters in Sekondi to give basic security protocols to the public through the media and also to brief journalists on measures taken by the Command to deal with the recent increase in crime cases in the Metropolis.
He mentioned that the Command has put measures like intensified patrol operations at night, increased barrier checkpoints, aggressive day and night operations with motor bike patrols and embarking on a “Stop and Search” for all motorbikes, especially unregistered motorbikes at all checkpoints, to make sure the metropolis was safe.
He assured that all security contingencies would be maximized, with personnel being positioned at vantage security checkpoints across the region while the Command goes all out to provide optimum security to ensure public safety in the region.
Giving security tips to help protect the public from possible attacks and kidnapping, DCOP Fosu-Agyemang stated that financial issues must be kept confidential and advised against keeping huge sums of money at the workplace or in the car.
He defined security as the state of being free from danger, taking steps to avoid being victimized by miscreants and measures taken as precaution to avoid theft, attacks, losses, intimidation, death or accidents among others.
DCOP Fosu-Agyeman, hinted that criminals consider two things before selecting their targets, such as how profitable the target is and the risk levels of the target to determine their chances of being arrested.
For her part, DSP Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, Western Regional Head of Public Affairs announced that the Command has met with Regional Managers of the Telecommunication Companies and is yet to meet with all mobile money vendors, bank managers and financial services providers in the Metropolis.
She pointed out that timely information from the public was key to fighting crime and urged the public to cooperate with the police in restoring calm and safety in the region by providing useful information that can lead to the arrest of these armed robbers and possible miscreants.
