National Sanitation Day: Assemblyman Attributes Low Patronage To Political Sabotage
The Assemblyman for Effiakuma West Electoral Area in the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly, Mr Edward Senam has attributed the continuous low patronage of the National Sanitation Day Exercise in his Area to political sabotage.
This follows low patronage by community members in the recent National Sanitation Day exercise in his Area after several appeals for citizen participation fell on deaf ears.
Mr Senam who made the remark on Adzekye Mu Nsem on Spice Fm in Takoradi explained that the current low participation of residents in the Area was as a result of his political affiliation.
“The challenges I’m facing in my Electoral Area is a partisan base issue, yesterday I called for a durbar, and when we called on people to come for the meeting, some people were spreading rumors that it was a gathering for the National Democratic Congress (NDC)”, he lamented.
He said the aim of the durbar was to provide a medium to unite the community and find out about concerns of the residents which has resulted in the low patronage of past and present communal labours.
“I tried to organize a durbar at ‘V-Compound’ to find out about the reasons why my people did not participate in the exercise and how best everybody could be brought on board to ensure the progress of the community, but surprisingly nobody showed up”, he added.
He pleaded with the community members to support him in the delivery of his mandate since they voted for him and implored them to eschew partisan politics for the development of the community.
Meanwhile, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of EKMA, Alhaji Issah expressed satisfaction about the entire exercise which took place in the municipality.
However, he said, the only challenge the Assembly encountered was the low patronage at the Effiakuma West Electoral Area.
He mentioned that the Assembly plans to invite the Assemblyman to find an amicable solution to the challenge.
