5,390 eligible voters expected to take part in special voting in W/R
A total of 5,390 eligible voters dotted across the 17 Constituencies in the Western Region are expected to take part in the special voting exercise today.
The Electoral Commission (EC) conducts special voting ahead of the general elections to enable security personnel, journalists and other observers and monitors who would play special roles on the election day to vote.
At the Ahanta West Constituency, voting started at exactly 0700 hours at the Municipal Assembly Hall Polling Station with all the COVID-19 safety protocols in place.
As at the time Spice News got to the Center at 0940 hour, 87 people had cast their votes out of the 325 voters expected to take part in the Special Voting at the Constituency.
Mr Randy K. N. Sokpe, Municipal Officer of the Electoral Commission (EC) told the Ghana News Agency that no challenge was encountered with the machines and the entire processes even though there was an earlier long queue.
He expressed the optimism that the turn out would be great looking at the enthusiasm demonstrated by the voters earlier in the morning.
He announced that all was set for the Monday, December 7 general elections with about 98% readiness and awaiting for the ballot papers on Sunday ahead of the election.
The exercise started at 0700 hours at the Electoral Commission’s Office at Ahwetieso in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency.
As of 10:06 am, a total of 181 eligible voters had cast their ballots.
Mr Sampson Asafua, Presiding Officer at the Center said that there was no challenge encountered while the voters duly complied with all the COVID- 19 safety protocols.
A stop at the Kwesimintsim Constituency revealed that voting started at exactly 0700 hours with the COVID-19 safety protocols observed while all agents for the political parties were present.
Mr. Charles Kumodzi, Presiding Officer disclosed that 130 voters had voted as at 0900 hours out of the 259 expected to take part in the exercise.
The situation was not different at the Takoradi Constituency which was held at the Police Canteen Polling Station when our team visited there.
As of 0820 hours, 59 people had cast their votes at the Center ‘A’ while 60 had cast their votes at the Center ‘B’ out of the expected 803 voters.
Madam Effe Wilson, Metropolitan Officer of the EC was happy about the compliance to the electoral processes and the COVID-19 safety protocols by the voters.
At the Catholic Parish Hall Polling Station in the Effia Constituency, 200 people had voted as of 12:50 pm out of the 357 people expected to vote
Presiding Officer at the Polling Station, Mr Afrane Clement noted that all the COVID-19 protocols were duly observed with no incident or challenge recorded.
