GPRTU assures accident free elections and Christmas in Takoradi

Mr Joseph Kingsley Eshun, Sekondi Trotro Station Chairman of the Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU) has reiterated their commitment to protect lives before, during and after the December elections and Christmas by ensuring safety on our roads.

He noted that during electioneering campaigns and the yuletide, there are lots of intercity and intracity travels and for that matter the Union has instructed all their members to make sure that they give strict adherence to road safety regulations.

They have also instructed all members to make sure that their vehicles meet the required roadworthiness standards to avert any unforeseen irregularities or mishaps on the roads.

Mr Eshun made the remarks during an outside broadcast event held by Spice Fm, a local radio in Takoradi dubbed, “Spice Constituency Tour” to informe electorates in seven (7) constituencies on issues pertaining to their respective constituencies to be able to make the appropriate decision on the 7th December elections.

According to him, members who ply within the intracity have recorded no accident resulting in deaths for the past one year and commended them for their resolve to protect lives.

However, he bewailed the situation where some recalcitrant drivers have resolved not to join any identifiable station in the Metropolis and urged such drivers to desist from that and join one of the unions.

Mr Eshun also called on commuters to do well to board vehicles at recognised stations for their own safety and welfare.

He further implored commuters to examine vehicles and ask nagging questions before boarding, and if possible lodge complaints at their office to seek redress.

He also bemoaned the high discipline among hawkers at the Market Circle where reserved spaces meant for parking have been taken over by them and called on the City Authority to bring the situation under control.
