GNFS Launches 2022 Fire Safety Week

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has launched its 2022 Fire Safety Week, with a call on Ghanaians to ensure they have adequate fire safety measures in place.

The week-long celebration, which is under the theme “Safer Environment, Key to Invest” will be marked in all the regions with the view to creating and sustaining awareness of the dangers of fires and outline the role of citizens to support the fire service.

As part of the week-long activities, the personnel would undertake education on fire safety, undertake an inspection and education of business and Schools which includes Takoradi Mall, Takoradi Market, Takoradi Technical Institute and Takoradi Senior High (Tadisco) to ensure that public places comply with fire safety measures.

The inspection exercise has become necessary in the wake of incessant fire outbreaks that have engulfed the country in recent times.

From January to March 2022 this year the Western Regional Command of the Ghana Fire Service has recorded a total of 126 fire outbreaks as against 87 cases in 2021, Out of the figure about 35 were bush fires.
