STMA and Zoomlion embark on disinfection exercise at Takoradi and Sekondi Markets
The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) in the Western Region in collaboration with the Zoomlion Ghana Limited (ZGL), a waste management expert this morning have embarked on a disinfection exercise at the Takoradi Market Circle as part of activities to improve on sanitation in the Metropolis.
The exercise, which began at 6:30 am and ended at 10:00 am covered all lorry stations, Taxi stations, and public toilets in the Takoradi Sub-Metro and saw the disinfection of the inner and outer perimeter of the Market Circle.
Today’s exercise is the third time the market and its environs have been sprayed with chlorine solution since the coronavirus pandemic recorded its peak in the country.
Speaking in an interview with Spice News during the exercise, Mr Abdul-Karim Hudu, Metro Environmental Health Officer deemed the exercise as successful and a step in the right direction in fighting the coronavirus pandemic.
For her part, Madam Leticia Massang, Takoradi Metro Manager of Zoomlion Ghana Limited expressed the hope that the disinfection exercise has so far achieved its target of helping to boost the fight against the coronavirus if not eliminate it.
She said the exercise started last Wednesday and ended last Saturday at the Sekondi Market whereas today’s exercise covered the entire Takoradi Market and its environs.
“The exercise has generally been good because the chemicals we use are WHO approved and very potent in fighting the coronavirus. However, some of the public toilets were not sprayed but would be done between Monday and Tuesday”, she stated.
Madam Massang pointed out that nine (9) motorised spraying machines were used for the exercise and said the company has decided to make the spraying exercise quarterly as their contributions to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
