Focus On Agriculture Funding – Financial Houses Advised

Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Yaw Frimpong Addo has advised financial houses to focus more financing agriculture to ensure growth in the sector.

According to him, obtaining adequate financing for the agricultural sector has been a daunting task for most agriculture ministers over the years.

Speaking at an Agrihouse Foundation Forum in Accra on the way financial houses can support agriculture, Mr. Addo lamented on the type of farming methods employed which he believes are reasons for the low funding in the sector.

He, therefore, called on industry players in the financial sector to support agricultural activities.

“Agric funding has become a nightmare for every Agric Minister because all the financial institutions think that Agric is. Which risk venture.

They would rather give the money to somebody to go to China to go and bring, sell and bring their money back. They would rather encourage people to go and buy Treasury bills instead of investing in agriculture.

It’s all because of the kind of Agric we’ve been doing in the country. If you depend on the weather for your agriculture this is what you should expect,” Deputy Agric Minister said.
