COVID-19: DON'T PANIC WHEN COMING TO KATH – DR MAXWELL OSEI-AMPOFO

Head of the Emergency department at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Dr Maxwell Osei-Ampofo, has asked the public not to panic when visiting the KATH during this COVID-19 pandemic because, there are major systems in place to distinguish patients who are sick and not; in order not to mix them up.

“We have our triage that sorts out patients dependant on their level of severity of illness, using South Africa’s triage scale, which are based on a person’s triage score (I.e, the measurement jûof one’s temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, level of glucose, consciousness level, amongst others). The hypothesis is that, if somebody is not well it is likely that he/she may have one of the parameters deranged; so if we measured all these vital signs and somebody is not well dependant on the triage score, the person could be sent to either the red zone, orange zone or yellow zone for further treatment,” he explained.

Dr Osei-Ampofo also buttressed on the fact that KATH is the major referral tertiary institution in the Ashanti Region and therefore is showing some level of leadership when this virus came in and he’s very happy about the interventions put in place by management under the auspices of the Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer.
