PROJECTS WESTERN REGION SHOULD EXPECT IN 2020-MINISTER

The Minister for Western region, Kobby Okyere Darko Mensah , yesterday met the press at the residency forecourt of the Western Regional Co-ordinating Council where he took a retrospective look at the  activities of 2019 and made projection in 2020

Speaking about his plans for 2020, h e outlined planned projects expected to be executed in the year 2020.

  • Evaluate the 2019 state of the Nation Address and Budget statement and Economic Policy of Government and also access the projects and programmes contained in the 2020 state of nation Address as  well as the budget statement and Economic Policy of Government  for the 2020 financial Year;
  • Host the Head of state Award for the silver and Bronze Categories in March, 2020. The ceremony will see 500 young people recorgnised for their efforts in community  Services skills and interest, physical recreation and  expedition
  • Modernisation Takoradi Market Circle;
  • Fisheries: For us in this Region, the Fisheries Sector is an added advantage where records show that we produce not less than 50 per cent of fish landed annually in the country. Tuna processing factory expected to be constructed this year. I wish to commend our fisher folk for their co-operation which made this year’s fishing closed season a success. I am happy that the fisheries Commission orgnanised a durbar on the ‘‘closed season’’ which helped in achieving great success
  • The first ever gold Expo dubbed ‘‘2020 Gold Expo’’ to be held in March 2020 at the best Western Plus Atlantic Hotel, Takoradi. This event is a strategic  initiative  that seeks to create a synergy among stakeholders as well us build  proper structures  to bring transparency in the Gold Trade;
  • Investment forum of Western Region to be organized  
  • Skill training for staff of WRCC AND modernization of WRCC operations;
  • Partnership with the Takoradi University on the installation of traffic lights in the Sekondi – Takoradi Metropolis;
  • Facilitate the production of marketing and business plans and bankable projects by MMDAs to attract investment;
  • A fertilizer processing Facility is to be put up in the Jomoro Municipality;
  • Expected to be re-constructed this year in the Achirenyi- Egyam Road in the Ahanta West Municipality;
  • Spearhead the construction of Takoradi International Airport at Kajebril in the Ahanta West Municipality
  • The Aiport is expected to provide a direct link with the West African Sub-  regional and global market
  • Pursue the upgrade of the Effia- Nkwanta Hospital in a research Hospital ‘
  • Facilitate the siting of the operation Headquarters of the GNPC in Takoradi and
  • Redevelopment of Virgin island in the region
