W/R:DRIVERS URGED TO PARTICIPATE IN FREE DEFENSIVE DRIVING TRAINING – ROAD SAFETY AUTHORITY
As part of President’s Special initiative to reduce road carnage in the country, government of Ghana has initiated a program called “Defensive Driving” to equip drivers in the Country with road safety Knowledge.
The program is currently on going and it is been supervised and executed by the Ghana Road Safety Authority.
Participants are a expected to learn about road signs, tire rotation, principles of overtaking, how best to protect themselves and pedestrians on the road and more. Drivers will be given study materials and certificates after the program.
According to the Western Regional Acting head of Ghana Road Safety Authority, Nana EKua Ansah, the projection of increase in road accident by 2020 per the institution’s research and the fact that lots of people have drivers licenses yet lack the basic road safety knowledge leading to increase in road accident is a call to action
“Our research shows that the recorded cases of accident will be more than 2000 from 2020 therefore the need to continuously organise such training to beef up drivers knowledge in road safety to reduce the road accidents in the country
Nana Ekua Ansah speaking on “Adekye Mu Nsem” on Spice Fm with Osikani Frimpong Manso also added that indicators for road Safety performance in the region has been unstable.
She cautioned Commercial car owners not to give theirs cars to drivers without licenses and below 25 years.
