The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party has charged Women in the party to work had to aspire for higher positions in the New Patriotic Party since women are not only ment for first ladies but there can be first gentlemen as well.
The role of women in politics and public offices is one of the topical
governance issues because of the perceived and acknowledged potential and contribution of women to governance processes.
According to John Boadu, women have played pivotal role in the success achieved by the party and the NPP National Women Conference is a testimony or symbol of growth in the role Women Play in the New Patriotic Party.
He added that the history of the New patriotic party shows numerous Women who have risen from the grass root to the high ranks of the party. For example the lifes of Usular Owusu, Theresa Tegoe and Cecelia Dapah who provided relentless support for the Party’s Women’s wing, the first ever Chief of Staff of Ghana ,Hon Akosua Frema Osie Opare and First National Vice Chairman of the party, Rita Talata Asobayere who have risen from the grass root to the top are all indication of progression of Women in the party.
Speaking on the impact of the Women’s Wing of the New patriotic party and their contribution to the fortunes of the party at the maiden edition of the NPP’s National Women Conference 2019 under the theme Women On The Move For Victory 2020 at Sekondi College in the Western Region.
The General Secretary of the New patriotic party charged women to come up with resolutions that will inform the party as to how and where to place women in decision making process of the party to Materialise the agenda for victory 2020 and beyond.
“Women are not only ment for first ladies, there can be be first Men, very Soon we are going to see a women rising out of all of you here to lead this party to continue what the men have done and it is going to happen in our life time, the next time we come to our annual national delegate Conference for which is going to be a yearly affair, we can count a number of women in very sensitive positions in other for us to push the agenda of Women to ensure that one day in this country we will have a Woman leading not only the New Patriotic Party but Ghana for properity”
The first lady of Republic Rebecca Akufo- Addo Ghana also urged party faithfuls to eschew apathy since that is one major element that can hinder the party’s victory agenda in 2020. She encourage the women to be resolute to ensure the party wins the upcoming election instead of laying back because of concerns that some people haven’t recieved their fair share of benefit from the party.
” it is better to be in power to fight for your fair share than to be in opposition”
Fredy blay, Chairman of the NPP also Urged women to come together to help Npp agenda of retaining power since three years is not enough for the president to accomplish his grand plan.
Chief of Staff, Hon Akosua Frema Osie Opare adviced party faithfuls and Ghanaians to ensure that they work very hard toward returning the New Patriotic Party to prevent the NDC from Cancelling government flagship show such as the Free Senior High School and the Nation builders Corps.
The Women Wing of the Party awarded Some distinct personalities of the party with plaques for their contributions to the Women wing of the party.
