40 footer container falls from a trailer and kills two in Takoradi

A trailer carrying a 40 footer container with the registration number GT 5953 – 20 fell on a private Daewoo Matiz vehicle with the registration number WR 1049 – 19 killing two people instantly on Friday, November 27, 2020 around 9:45 pm on the PWD Highway in Takoradi.

According to an eyewitness account from a Taxi driver who was behind the Daewoo Matiz from the Paa Grant Roundabout towards the Kwame Nkrumah Roundabout, a Taxi driver crossed the path of the trailer vehicle from the Vodafone office link road.

However, in an attempt to save the situation, the trailer driver who was heading towards the Paa Grant Roundabout veered off its path towards the Vodafone Office resulting in the container which was loaded with Cocoa without a belt falling on the Daewoo Matix killing instantly two people on board.

Here is the eyewitness account in an exclusive interview with Spice News.

“The incident happened around 9:45 pm when rains had set off, a white and yellow Taxi crossed an approaching trailer from the which was heading towards the Paa Grant Roundabout from the Kwame Nkrumah Roundabout”.

“In an attempt to save the Taxi which had crossed him from the link road leading to the Vodafone Office, the container fell off the trailer to fall on the Daewoo Matiz that was from the Paa Grant Roundabout”.

However, with the help of Ghana National Fire Service and the Sekondi Motor, Traffic and Transport Division (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, the body of the deceased were retrieved and deposited at the Effia-Nkwanta Morgue pending autopsy.

The crushed Daewoo Matiz has also been sent to the regional MTTD office in Sekondi.
