ROYAL FAMILY OF AKETENCHIE WANTS MRS MARGARET NICOL-SEY BURIED IN GHANA NOT UK

The Royal Bretuo family of Aketenchie, a division of Ahanta Traditional Council and Paramount family of Bamianko in the Western Region of Ghana are requesting the mortal remains of their royal, the late Mrs. Margaret Nicol-Sey as Ghanaian customs and traditions demand.

Mr. David Anthony Nicol-Sey who is the son of the late Mrs. Margaret Joyce Nicol-Sey whose maiden name was Margaret Joyce Cromwell disclosed this to Spicefmonline.com

Lamenting on the issue, Anthony Nicol-Sey said her mother Mrs. Margaret Joyce Nicol-Sey is a sister to Nana Eben Ayeboafo XIII, Divisional Chief of Aketenchie in the Ahanta Traditional Area in the Western Region of Ghana.

“It is customarily appropriate for the mortal remains of the late Mrs. Margaret Nicol-Sey to be given a befitting royal burial in her hometown in Ghana and that is all the family is asking for”.

He added that, “It’s completely unacceptable for their mother, a royal for that matter to be buried overseas whiles tradition and cultural values demands her mortal remains be repatriated home for a befitting burial”.

Meanwhile, the royal families of Aketenchie and Bamianko, led by President of the Ahanta Traditional Council, a former Council of State Member, Otumfuo Baidoo Bonsoe XV and Omahene of Gwira Traditional Area, Awulae Angama Tu-Agyan II have equally written to the British Embassy in Ghana and in the United Kingdom to halt any attempt and arrangement by anybody or group of persons to bury their sister in UK since that is against their cultural values.

“It is the desire of our last sister to be laid-to-rest at home beside her forefathers as custom demands and we the royal families of Aketenchie and Bamianko together with our Omanhene, Otumfuo Baidoo Bonsoe XV is ever ready to bear any cost in bringing the mortal remains of our beloved sister back home for burial”.

In a statement to British Embassy both in Ghana and UK sighted by spicefmonline.com, the family is asking the British government to just facilitate the process of bringing the mortal remains of Mrs. Margaret Niucol-Sey to Ghana.

In a related development, the Western Regional Coordinating Council in a letter signed by the Regional Minister Kwabene Okyere Darko Mensah has also put forward a request through the offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affires and Regional Integration as well as the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affires to aid to bring back home the remains of Mrs. Margaret Niucol-Sey.
