For all consumer categories, the price of water services will see an increase, effective June 1, 2023; according to the PURC.

For all consumer categories, the price of water services will see an increase, effective June 1, 2023.

This comes after the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) reviewed and approved an increase in water rates for the second quarter of 2023.

“In taking this decision, the commission took cognizance of the cost of electricity, increased volume cost of chemicals for raw water treatment, the Ghana Cedi/US Dollar exchange rate and inflation,” PURC announced in a statement issued on Thursday, May 18.

“The Commission will continue to monitor the operations of the utility service providers to ensure value for money and quality service delivery,” it added.

The same period saw a general 18.36% increase in PURC’s electricity and natural gas pricing.

According to PURC, the choice was made to strike a compromise between preventing lengthy power outages and the detrimental effects they have on people’s livelihoods and livelihoods while limiting the impact of rate hikes on consumers.

The Quarterly Tariff Review Mechanism aims to monitor and take into account changes to important variables that are used to calculate natural gas and electricity pricing.
