700 new LED street lights installed in Takoradi
The Sekondi – Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has installed 700 LED street bulbs on the principal streets and arterial roads in the metropolis. This is to help improve the lightening system in Sekondi – Takoradi.
Head of Works Department at the STMA William Tei – Kpoti told beachfmonline that all other accessories that will ensure that the bulbs stay on for a longer time have been procured.
He also mentioned that cables connected to the poles have been buried to prevent unwarranted cuts. Mr. Tei – kpoti indicated they are hoping to procure additional 300 to enable them extent the lights deep into the communities.
“We have been able to replace most of the bulbs. We have fix about 600. We just finished adding 100 bulbs. We have made plans to procure additional 300 LED bulbs. What we have done so far is to fix the lights on the major roads and some arterial roads”.
“We have not been able to go deeper into the suburbs. So we are hoping that by 1st quarter next year we will be able to get the additional 300 bulbs to improve the lightening system in Sekondi – Takoradi”.
He explained that the reason for the choice of the LED bulbs is because they perform better than the sodium ones.
The Works Engineer indicated that there are adequate measures in place to ensure they can quickly maintain the bulbs once there is a fault.
He said currently the assembly has procured a hydraulic platform to expedite maintenance.
“As an assembly we have not rested on our oars when it comes to maintaining the street lights, that is why last year the assembly has took it upon itself, to procure a hydraulic platform… aside that efforts are being made to get us accessories to boast our maintenance drive. We do have the manpower and commitment to work but sometimes we cannot control the challenges”.
