Kan-Dapaah and Agyeman-Manu scheduled to address Parliament today

Parliament

The Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, is set to address Parliament today, Thursday, November 9, 2023, explaining the closure of the Renal Unit at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

This appearance comes in response to a request from Juaboso MP Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, who also wants clarification on the government’s actions to tackle the challenges leading to the closure and the rise in kidney-related diseases.

Akandoh specifically called for the minister to discuss the unresolved GH¢380 fee for kidney treatment, which remained unaddressed since the outpatient department closure in May.

The Renal Unit was reopened on November 6 following the Health Minister’s directive.

Additionally, National Security Minister Albert Kan-Dapaah is expected in Parliament today to respond to questions about the alleged military attacks on residents of Garu and Tempane in the Upper East Region.

The incidents left over 50 people hospitalized, with claims that the military response was in retaliation for an attack on National Security operatives by a vigilante group in Garu.

In response to parliamentary calls for an investigation, Second Deputy Speaker Andrew Amoako Asiamah directed the National Security Minister to brief legislators on the situation on November 9, 2023.

The Minister’s appearance aims to shed light on the alleged attacks and the government’s response.
