World Heart Day: Need For The Establishment Of A Heart Institute To Care For Persons With Heart Diseases

Today is World Heart Day, and Professor Mark Tettey, Acting Director of the National Cardio-Thoracic Center, believes there is a pressing need to promote heart fitness and healthy lives.

The Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital’s current facilities for treating heart conditions, according to Prof. Tettey, are overburdened.

A Heart Institute must be established, as well as a more efficient Foundation, to provide free heart disease care.

Professor Tettey, in an engagement with the media, said, “We need to put structures in place to be able to reach those with heart problems.

We have embarked on two projects, the first one is building a bigger heart centre and also coming up with a national heart foundation which we encourage every citizen to contribute to so that we can treat heart-related diseases free of charge.

If the government can support us, in every way, it will help management of heart diseases.”

He urged the citizenry to adopt a healthy lifestyle, frequently exercise, check blood pressure, and eat a balanced diet.

Professor Tettey called for the government’s support in establishing a foundation to cater for persons with heart-related disease
