ECG Readies Itself To Implement New PURC Tariffs

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), says it is ready to start charging the PURC-approved new tariffs effective September 1.

On August 15, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission announced a major tariff adjustment for utility companies.

A statement signed by the Managing Director of ECG, Samuel Mahama, said the average percentage increase is on energy consumption only, therefore the addition of statutory levies and other fixed charges will increase the average percentage announced by the PURC.

In effect, individual customers’ tariff percentage increase will depend on customer classification and consumption category. It said lifeline beneficiaries’ consumption has been pegged at 30 kilowatts per hour, according to the new bands for residential customers.

The statement said they have catalogued all unit consumption and the expected cost in a “Reckoner”, which clearly explains how the tariff is applied and billed. This will be displayed in all districts and customer service centres across the country to help customers make electricity purchases.
