Bagbin summons Adutwum, Bryan, Ofori-Atta over debt to food suppliers

In response to a request made by Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has summoned the Ministers of Education, Agriculture, and Finance to appear before the House and provide explanations regarding the government’s indebtedness to the National Food Suppliers Association.

The ministers called upon are Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Bryan Acheampong, and Ken Ofori-Atta.

The directive comes as a result of the ongoing protests by food suppliers who have been picketing at the office of the Buffer Stock Company to demand payment of the outstanding debt, amounting to over GH¢270 million.

Speaker Bagbin emphasized the importance of keeping Members of Parliament informed so they can effectively represent the interests of their constituents.

He agreed with the proposal to schedule a session for the three ministers to appear before the House and provide explanations regarding the debt issue.

The ministers responsible are the Ministers of Finance, Food and Agriculture, and Education. Bagbin stated that this process would enable the House to assist the Executive in resolving such challenges.

He also mentioned the establishment of a committee on ways and means to address such matters.
