NSS reveals intentions to pay outstanding allowances soon

The National Service Secretariat (NSS) has revealed its intentions to distribute outstanding allowances for the initial half of 2023 to individuals engaged in the Scheme.

This development comes in the wake of the endorsement for an increase in the monthly stipends for National Service personnel, soaring from GH¢559 to GH¢715.57.

In a conversation with Accra-based Citi FM, Ambrose Entsiwah Junior, the interim head of corporate affairs for the National Service Scheme, emphasized that the disbursement of the revised allowance will encompass retroactive payments starting from January.

This means that eligible personnel will receive their adjusted allowances, including the backdated amount owed to them.

“We were owing them [NSS personnel] for the month of June and July together with the arrears and last Friday, we paid them the June allowances, and we are working toward paying them the arrears which had been approved by the Ministry of Finance, and we have asked them to submit their data.”

“Maximum two weeks, we will pay the arrears from January to June, and after we have paid the arrears, we will pay the July allowance with the new rate.”
