Renal patients relieved by the reopening of the Korle-Bu renal unit

Korle Bu

The Renal Patient Association of Ghana has expressed its appreciation for the Ministry of Health and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital’s decision to reopen the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital’s renal unit to outpatients.

The group views this move as a significant relief, allowing its members to resume their regular dialysis sessions and daily lives.

The closure of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital’s renal unit to outpatients, which had lasted for six months, was primarily due to a debt of over GH¢4 million owed to suppliers of dialysis consumables.

Kojo Ahenkorah, the spokesperson for the Association, conveyed their gratitude for this initial step, emphasizing that while it was a substantial relief, other challenges affecting the renal unit also need to be addressed.

He specifically mentioned the importance of abolishing taxes on dialysis consumables.
