A deadly exchange of artillery fire occurred between Sudan’s army and the rival paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the southern part of Khartoum, resulting in the deaths of at least 10 civilians.

According to activist Muhammad Kindasha, some victims perished when an artillery shell struck a residence hosting a social event.

The clashes, described as “fierce confrontations,” unfolded in residential areas, causing a “catastrophic” situation. Shells also hit a local market during the skirmish.

The conflict between the army and the RSF, ongoing since April 2023, has witnessed numerous civilian casualties due to indiscriminate shelling in Khartoum.

Recent clashes, particularly in Khartoum, Omdurman, and Bahri, have escalated, with the army claiming advancements.

The UN reports that the conflict has resulted in a death toll of at least 12,000 people and displaced over seven million others.
