Rotary Club of Takoradi-Anaji launch solar street light project at Assakae-Whindo Methodist school
The Rotary Club of Takoradi-Anaji has launched the commencement for the construction of ten (10) solar powered street lights at Assakae-Whindo Methodist Primary and Junior High School in Takoradi.
The project which costs $3,000 seeks to increase lighting and visibility in the school of approximately 1,033 students, to improve the security of students and other valuables of the school.
Speaking to Beach News, President of the Club, Edwin Kofi Amanor explained the reasoning behind the donation to the school.
“The school authorities wrote to us regarding a theft issue as a result of the inadequacy of lighting systems in their school. We run a survey and found out that indeed, the school lacked lighting system. Because one of our areas of focus is Economic and Community Development, we believed that providing the need of the school will help not only the school, but the surrounding against issues of theft.”
“Currently the logistics are ready. It is a sustainable project which will last more than 3 years before maintenance…we will be going there on a regular basis to check the status of the lights. The lights will spread out from kindergarten through to JHS”, he added.
R.P Kofi Amanor further revealed the club’s future projects within Takoradi-Anaji. He also called on benevolent people to join their club in helping shape the communities and assist the needy.
“We have identified some schools within Takoradi-Anaji that we will be visiting to extend our hand of help to them. Rotary is still doing a lot,, although we are a Non-Governmental Organization. I will use this opportunity to call out to anybody with the heart of giving to come and join us shape and help our communities.”
The School Improvement Support Officer (SISO), of Apramdo-Kwesimintsim circuit, EKMA Education Directorate, Michael Ocrah, expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club for the donation. He also called on other organizations to also come to the aid of the school.
“The school really needed this. Unfortunately there isn’t enough light, and as a result, the school’s borehole pumping machine got stolen. So I believe this support will go a long way to protect and secure to the assets of the school.”
“The Rotary Club of Takoradi-Anaji has done something that most NGOs don’t do. They came without thinking twice. I’ll use this opportunity to appeal to other NGOs to take inspiration from what this club has done and come to our school to offer us more assistance.”
Assistant Girls’ School Prefect of Assakae-Whindo Methodist JHS, Beatrice Cudjoe expressed excitement over the donation received from Rotary Club. She and her colleague, Erica Mensah said the lighting will help learn in the evenings in their school and also protect their belongings from theft.
I fell very happy about this. In the evening when we come here to learn we find some people here, IT scares us, so I think this will help protect us and our properties”, Beatrice Cudjoe said.
Erica AMensah also added that, “I feel delighted and I pray that God will blesses the Rotary club to do more and more for us because we still need more things.”
The Rotary Club of Takoradi-Anaji will handover the completed project to the Assakae-Whindo Methodist School on August 13, 2023.
