Northern Region

On Sunday, January 21, 2024, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) conducted an Extraordinary Constituency Delegates Conference to officially endorse unopposed Aspiring Parliamentary Candidates.

According to Article 7(31) of the NPP’s constitution, the delegates in Tolon, gathered at the Sari Conference Hall in the Northern Region, unanimously expressed their support for Habib Iddrisu’s bid for a second term in Parliament through popular acclamation.

The Tolon Electoral Commission (EC) District Officer, Ben Teye, oversaw the event, where thousands of delegates vocally affirmed their endorsement for the parliamentary candidate.

The confirmation of Habib Iddrisu’s candidature took place as the EC Officer asked the assembled delegates if they supported the incumbent MP, and in response, the crowd resoundingly cheered “I” in unison.

Frank Annor Dompreh, the incumbent MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri and Majority Chief Whip, commended Tolon’s legislature as a valuable asset, crediting his substantial contributions to various achievements in parliament.

Dompreh expressed his recognition of Iddrisu’s role in parliamentary success and emphasized the importance of acknowledging the efforts of members of parliament.

During the event, Dompreh, on his first visit to Habib Iddrisu’s constituency, acknowledged the popularity of the MP and stressed the significance of not taking one’s member of parliament for granted. He highlighted Iddrisu as possibly the first MP to assume a leadership role in his initial term.

Iddrisu, the MP for Tolon and second deputy majority chief whip, characterized the day as a demonstration of unity and togetherness in the Tolon constituency.

He urged all constituency executives to unite for success, citing their achievements in the 2020 elections and setting a higher goal for the upcoming polls.

Expressing gratitude for the constituents’ confidence, Iddrisu encouraged delegates to ensure a resounding victory for the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the 2024 elections.

Similarly, Karaga, Gushegu, Bimbila, and Tatale-Sanguli in the Northern Region also confirmed their parliamentary candidates during events held within their respective constituencies.
