Takoradi Technical University improves on infrastructure

Rev. Prof John Frank Eshun, Vice-Chancellor of the Takoradi Technical University (TTU) in the Western Regionof has reiterated that as part of its vision of becoming a centre of excellence, the University has undertaken a number of projects to improve on its infrastructure.

Among them are the 5-storey Odro Block which is 95% complete consisting of 40 classrooms and 100 offices to provide additional lecture halls and office spaces for students and staff in the next academic year. 

The University has also completed two mechanized boreholes as part of measures to control the perennial water crisis on campus.

Rev. Prof Eshun made the disclosure at the 5th Congregation of the University to take stock of various activities that took place during the academic year as well as confer degrees, diplomas and certificates to deserving graduates who have successfully completed their programs of study in the 2019/2020 academic year.  

He said the University Health Centre which is currently under renovation will be equipped to improve its capacity to offer service to the entire students and the surrounding communities. 

The Health Centre when completed will have wards for both male and female, X-ray, Scan, Eye units, Pharmacy and Laboratory, which will operate 24/7. 

In view of this, the University has employed a full-time Medical Officer to oversee the health facility.  

Other ongoing projects include the, a 4-storey lecture theatre at Faculty of Business Studies Campus, BU, the extension of the Administration Block and a 4-storey classroom complex behind the Plumbing Block and the Conversion of the Annan Block into office complex to enhance teaching and learning as well as administrative work.

According to him, this year has been a challenging one, with regards to the global pandemic, however, lecturers tremendously and tirelessly worked hand in hand with the students to end the academic year smoothly.

He expressed the hope that the growth graduates have experienced in terms of knowledge, professional skills and maturity shall be put to use to make a major contribution in society. 

“As we celebrate these achievements, we look forward to these phenomenal potentials and how you will shape the future with every knowledge you have acquired”, he opined.

Chairperson of the TTU Governing Council, Dr. Mrs Henrietta Abane congratulated the graduating students and said the graduation marks the end of one journey and the beginning of the journey of life and therefore strive to be change agents in their communities. 

She maintained that the University has equipped them with basic survival skills which they should harness and apply in solving everyday problems and urged them to go into the world and use the knowledge and opportunity their education has given them wisely.
