Mr. Dan Botwe, Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, today has released the full list of Nominees for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).
He made the pronouncement in a press conference with the media and other stakeholders where he said that the list has been forwarded to the Regional Ministers for the approval process to begin.
“They (Regional Ministers) are going to contact from tomorrow, Regional Directors of the Electoral Commission, get in touch with the Presiding Members of the various Assemblies and start the process of confirming Mr. President’s nominees,” he said.
He cautioned party patrons to avoid victimisation and violence following rumours that some MMDCEs have been not retained.
Mr Botwe stated that regardless of who has been chosen by the President, all MMDCEs, like other government appointees, have been selected to serve the community just like all others.
“Well-meaning Ghanaians know that we all are aspiring to serve our motherland and if an opportunity is not given at a particular time for you to serve there cannot be any reason whatsoever, why there should be a disturbance,” he added.
Mr. Bowtwe stated emphatically that after the president has endorsed his final list after broader stakeholders consultation, nobody can question the president’s strategy in selecting or choosing his nominees since the constitution doesn’t even provide for it.
“Those of you saying that some nominees did not go through an interview must recognise that, it is not an issue, the constitution does not give strict rules about how the president has to select MMDCEs”
