Mining Company Faces Threat From Residents Of Prestea

Future’s Global Resources, a mining company has expressed concerns regarding threats from a group called Prestea Concerned Citizens to attack their mine in the area.

In a letter addressed to the Municipal Executive of the area, the group alleges that the company’s operations are obstructing their galamsey activities which are their primary source of living.

The group has therefore decided to harm the staff and damage the mine’s property.

This incident follows the report of illegal small-scale miners who set fire to Golden Star Wassa Mine at Benso in the Western Region.

“This is very serious. For us, this is not the first time but he seems to be the worst of its kind considering the fact that they put it in writing and sign, and the threat is well presented.
Apart from the demonstration they elicit help from other areas and unleash their violence on the Company, and our property, staff and security are some time that can not be taken for granted.

So what we have done is that we have initiated processes of protecting our staff and our properties,” He said.

Head of Stakeholder Communications and Community Engagement at Future Global Resources, Robert Gyamfi says the threat is not new, and reveals that the company has taken measures to curtail any future occurrences.

” We are not also sitting idle especially since their letter was issued three days before the recent unfortunate attack on the Golden Star Wassa Mine. So, clearly, we realise that we shouldn’t sit and think that they are the usual threat.

These are a real threat and we are seeking the Ghana Police Service to help apprehend and get the culprits to know that if anything happens to any staff or any of our property then we know those to go after, ” Mr Gyamfi stated.
