Keta Municipal Security Council has temporarily stopped fishing in the area

Keta

The Keta Municipal Security Council has issued a temporary suspension on fishing activities in response to the rising water levels stemming from the opening of the flood control gate at the Havedzi-Kedzi estuary.

This action was taken as a precautionary measure due to the Keta Lagoon’s recent breach of its boundaries, caused by the continuous spillage of the Akosombo Dam.

The decision to halt fishing operations is aimed at safeguarding the lives of fishermen, given the elevated water levels in the Keta Lagoon resulting from various factors, including the spillage of the Akosombo Dam and additional water bodies, along with rainfall.

Municipal Chief Executive Emmanuel Gemegah emphasized that allowing anyone to fish under these conditions could pose risks to lives and property.
