Western Region Records Low Number In Road Crashes – NRSA

Statistics from the National Road Safety Authority, in the Western Region, have showed a reduction in the number of road crash fatalities from January to September this year as against that of last year.

According to the Assistant Planning Officer of NRSA, Emmanuel Nana Okyere, a total of 80 vehicles were involved in fatal accidents in 2021 whilst 60 vehicles were involved in fatal accidents around same period in 2022.

A total of 654 road crashes case were recorded between January to September 2021 compared to January to September 2022 stood at 525.

Moreover, he observed, that in 2021 there were 135 pedestrian knocks down but in 2022, the number has reduced to 83.

Mr. Okyere in an interview with Spice FM attributed the reduction of road crashes to continuous road safety education carried out by personnel of the NRSA across the districts offices in the region.

He added that, with the efforts of stakeholders such as the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD),Fire Service and amongst others have also contributed significantly to the new records in road crashes.

Mr. Okyere, thus appealed to drivers to be responsible and heed to directives and similarly urged pedestrians and other road users to desist from crossing the road indiscriminately.

He adds, that the Authority has begun a sensitisation exercise for drivers in the metropolis to create a safer environment for the festivities.
