Water Shortage Hits Parts Of Takoradi

Residents at Chapel Hill, New Site, Effia, Pipe Ano, Airport Ridge, and its environs have been experiencing water shortage for quite some time now.

Residents in these communities indicated that they have not had water running through their taps for over three weeks.

These frustrated residents have had to sacrifice their time, comfort, and sleep just to go on a hunt for water.

The residents of these communities said the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) did not announce to them its intention to of water shortage.

They contended that the situation was affecting their daily activities since they had to walk for long distances to fetch water for domestic and commercial activities.

They described the situation as a dire one and called on authorities to fix the situation as soon as possible.

Aunty Ama, a resident of Chapel Hill, said she reached out to a Ghana Water Company employee and he claimed that water flows.

” I spoke to an employee of the Ghana Water Works and he said water was flowing. If water is to be flowing, I would have known. So they wait till people have left their homes before the water starts flowing.
If they knew water will stop flowing for some weeks or months due to some fault, they should have informed us. So what would we have done if there were no wells in our neighborhood?”

Mr. Yaw Appiah, a resident of Airport Ridge also said that the water situation has been really bad for the past couple of months and years. Until water stopped flowing for roughly three weeks, we used to get water twice a week.

It started running on Monday of last week for a few hours before ceasing to flow up until now. For cooking and other household needs, we have to rely on sachet water and the well we’ve drugged inside our home.

He added that he doesn’t understand why Ghana Water Company doesn’t give its clients an official announcement to notify them. He believes that the Ghana Water Company should revamp its operations and exercise greater diligence.

Another resident complained about the pungent smell in her home because there’s no water to take care of certain things.
