The Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Health Directorate in the Western Region has taken delivery of the first batch of COVID-19 vaccines.
The Directorate received 2,700 doses of the COVID-19 vaccines to be administered to health workers within the Municipality after which the next batch would be administered to the general public.
Handing over the vaccines to the Municipal Health Directorate on behalf of the Government, Mr Benjamin Kessie, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) was grateful to the Government for procuring the vaccine for the frontline workers.
He announced that although the first batch of vaccines was strictly meant for health professionals, the Government would soon extend the exercise to the general public and therefore urged them to avail themselves when it gets to their turn.
According to him, vaccination was the surest way to defeat the spread of the virus since walking around with nose masks all the time was challenging to some.
After taking his jab together with the wife, Madam Alberta Bonney, Mr Kessie allayed the fears associated with taking the vaccine and said the vaccine does not come with complications, being just like what we have been taking in the past.
Mr Kessie further urged the media to intensify their advocacy and education on the vaccination exercise to allay all fears and mitigate the misconceptions about the vaccine.
The Municipal Health Director of the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality, Mrs Caroline Effah Otoo, upon receiving the vaccine on behalf of the Directorate expressed appreciation to the Government and the Assembly for the gesture.
She assured that her outfit will make sure every health worker was vaccinated and urged the media to continuously educate the public on the need to vaccinate so as to help eradicate the deadly virus from the country.
