NCCE Set 2022 To Promote Democracy and Ghanaian Culture


The Western Regional Director of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), Justice Yaw Ennin has indicated that the Commission is set to intensify education and promotion of Ghana’s democracy and culture in the year 2022.
According to him, values forms part of every country’s development which should not be downplayed.


The NCCE’s year activities is themed,’ Sustaining our Democracy, our Ghanaian value in practice.
Mr. Ennin in an interview with Spice FM in accessing the previous year, outlined some challenges faced by the Commission in executing their duties.

He lamented on challenges on resource constraint affecting the commission from embarking on educational and informative programs to benefit the general public.

“Our major challenges we faced in the previous year has to do with inadequate logistics such as vehicles. NCCE is a non-profitable organization which rely solely on the provisions from the ruling government for carrying out our duties properly.” He said.

In his view, providing for the Commission makes it more efficient and effective to implement their mandate as enshrined in the constitution.

He added that the commission’s core mandate is to educate the general public on the constitutional provisions and some selected government programs yet the institution sometimes go the extra-mile to embark campaigns for other government institution that who might not have the capacity to do so. This makes the general public have the perception that NCCE has to promote all campaings.

Speaking on the theme for the year, he mentioned that some outmoded cultural practices such as Trokosi system, witch camps and others have been minimized through education. He opined that, good practices like punctuality, honesty etc. must be upheld by citizens.

He nonetheless advised that Ghanaians limit their taste for Western culture which goes a long way to destroy the values of the nation.

Touching on democracy, Mr. Ennin admonished legislators to exhibit good practice associated with democracy.
“Parliamentarians should know that in governance, consensus building is key. They should learn to tolerate each other views and not to compromise on the partisan politics. He stated.

He also touched on corruption as being a social canker which stems from our educational system that creates competition amongst people.
Mr. Ennin implored on Ghanaians to build good character building and eschew unqualified manners in the society.
