Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi has expressed his country’s willingness to collaborate with Niger in economically advantageous areas.
President Raisi’s statement came after a meeting with Niger’s Foreign Affairs Minister Bakary Yaou Sangaré, who assumed the role following a military coup in July.
In a statement on the Iranian president’s website, Mr. Raisi commended Niger for its “desire for independence” and its resistance against European hegemonic policies, which he viewed as a significant step towards Africa’s transition from colonialism.
Niger is the most recent African nation to attract Iran’s attention as it seeks to overcome international isolation.
In September, President Raisi held talks with Burkina Faso’s junta-appointed Foreign Minister, Olivia Rouamba, applauding African nations for their resilience against colonialism and terrorism.
In July, he embarked on a historic visit to Kenya, Uganda, and Zimbabwe, marking the first visit by an Iranian president to Africa in over a decade.
