In a case before an Accra Circuit Court, eight individuals have been arrested and accused of robbing a lawyer’s Premier Place home in the Airport Residential area.
The alleged robbery involved the theft of US$114,500.00, £800.00, GH¢50,000.00, and €3,000.00 from a trunk inside the lawyer’s closet. Additionally, the lawyer was reportedly robbed at gunpoint of GH¢2,000.00, US$800.00, and unspecified jewelry.
The accused persons facing charges are Richmond Tetteh (alias Metiti), Mawuli Heletsi (aka Mosquito), David Kokvina, Joseph Nii Amu Offei (alias Gaza, aka Hero), Malik Alhassan (alias Goliath @ Ababe), Dennis Adu Ninson (alias NAM1), Mustapha Mumuni (alias Starboy), and Zuberu Mustapha (alias One Corner). They are being tried for conspiracy to commit a crime and robbery.
Mustapha and Zuberu are specifically charged with dishonestly receiving stolen items. Before the robbery, Mustapha Mumuni and Zuberu Mustapha allegedly provided Malik with a substance, suspected to be cocaine, to enhance his energy for the crime. Mawuli and David sought protection from their spiritual father in Dambai, Oti region, after the robbery.
During the court proceedings, Malik, Mustapha, and Zuberu were the first to be presented before the court. Subsequently, the number of accused persons increased to five and then later to eight. Some of the accused individuals were granted bail, while others remained in police custody. The trial is ongoing, with the next hearing scheduled for July 31, 2023.
According to the prosecution led by Superintendent Augustine Yirenkyi, all accused persons are residents of various locations in Accra. The lawyer, Hamida Nuhu, was attacked by Mawuli, David, Joseph, and Richmond while the other accomplices surrounded her house. Mawuli, disguised in black with a mask and armed with a pistol, entered the lawyer’s room, robbed her of the mentioned currencies and jewelry, and threatened her not to leave the room.
Lawyer Hamida reported the incident to the police, and Joseph’s arrest was facilitated by CCTV footage showing him arriving at the scene on a motorbike. The investigation led to the arrest of other accused individuals, and some admitted to giving part of the stolen items to their associates. The case is still under investigation, and efforts are being made to apprehend other accomplices.
