The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Focus1 Group of Companies comprising of Focus1 Media, Focus1 Distribution, Focus1 Construction and Focus1 Events has made a donation worth over GH￠ 20,000.00 to the Sekondi Prisons in the Western Region as part of the Valentine’s Day celebrations.
The items consist of food stuff, 600 pieces of alcohol-based hand sanitisers, 600 pieces of nose masks, 2 Thermometer Guns, 20 boxes of Vitamin C Tablets and 600 boxes of Zinc Tablets to be shared among 694 inmates of the Prisons.
The gesture which has become an annual event has continuously extended love to inmates of the Sekondi Prisons for the past 11 years with items like bags of maize, gari and rice, toothbrushes, drinks and slippers among others.
However, this year’s event took place in front of the Prisons amidst the observance of COVID-19 safety protocols unlike last year where the event hosted the Award Winning Rapper, Ayesem and friends from other media houses that joined the Focus1 Media to entertain inmates within the precinct of the Prison.
Meanwhile, this year’s event was led by Mrs Evelyn Adu-Mante with support from Mr Kojo Amoako Nzoley, General Manager of Focus1 Media and accompanied by some staff of the company.
Mrs Evelyn Adu-Mante who presented the items on behalf of the CEO of the Group, Mr Kwame Adu-Mante said that the purpose of the event was to extend love to the inmates and explained that the choice of the items was influenced by the COVID-19 global pandemic.
“We have made it a part of our plans to always put smiles on the faces of inmates at the Sekondi Prisons on every Valentine’s Day, as the good book says, we should love our enemies, therefore this is our own small way to put smiles on the faces of all inmates irrespective of what brought them into the Prison”, she opined.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Prisons, Supt. Samuel Amarfo, Western Regional Operations Officer was grateful to the Group for the kind gesture and said it would go a long way to help on the day-to-day running of the Prison.
According to him, the consumables will go a long way to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 among inmates.
“It is good that we have been given these COVID-19 consumables to augment the already existing ones, these are consumables and they get finish with time, therefore per the number of inmates we have now that is 694, the gesture is a step in the right direction and we appreciate it”, he pointed out.
Supt. Amarfo also made a request for Veronica buckets and tissue papers to facilitate the Prison’s fight against COVID-19.
The Operations Officer refuted the allegation that was recently made by a former inmate of the Sekondi and Nsawam Prisons on Spice Fm’s Adzekye Mu Nsem where it was said that sometimes donations don’t get to inmates of the Prisons.
Supt. Amarfo therefore urged the members of the public not to tolerate such allegations since it could deter potential donors from racing out to the Service.
Mr Kojo Amoako Nzoley, General Manager of Focus1 Media also assured the Service of considering the additional requests as made by the Operations Officer.
