Youth Urged to Venture Into Agriculture
The 2021 Best Youth Farmer in the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA), Fuseini Idrissu has entreated young people to consider venturing into agriculture as its advantages are enormous.
Agriculture contributes to 54 per cent of Ghana’s GDP, and accounts for over 40 per cent of export earnings, while at the same time providing over 90 per cent of the food needs of the country.
Speaking to Spice FM, Fuseini Idrissu disclosed that even though the sector faces a lot of challenges, it is a means to end unemployment amongst the youth.
He also added that though the cost of agricultural products such as fertilizers and others has increased everyone can tap into the benefits of agriculture and be self employed.
“People seem to look down on those of us in the Agric sector. I want to tell the youth that culture is beneficial.
Creating a job for yourself is the way to go. I have benefited a lot from it and will urge everyone to venture into agriculture.”
Spice 91.9 FM has dedicated the month of June to highlighting the role of agriculture in the economy as well as how the young people can tap into the sector to reduce unemployment.
For him, the challenges confronting the sector need to be tackled by the efforts of the government to make the sector attractive.
