Youth in Bibiani stages massive demonstration against Assembly over delayance of community mining

The Concern Youth of Bibiani Small Scale Miners Association (CYOBSSMA), a pressure group within Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of Western North Region (WNR) has staged a massive demonstration against the Authorities of the Assembly over what they termed as negligence and delayance of the long awaited community mining.

The demonstrators, numbering about a hundred, demanded that the Authorities of the Assembly permit them to do the Community mining in order to help them survive with their families.

According to them, the reason for their demonstration was the fact they were hungry and could not sit aloof while foreigners enjoyed their resources.

“We need legal mining concessions to work on so as to survive”, they pointed out.

The leader of the group, Dominic Afriyie who addressed journalists pointed out that the community mining would provide funds to support the Assembly in community development projects.

“Our youth are starving, they have been arrested day in and day out for unlawful reasons. Money to buy food has become a problem for us, releasing the land for the community mining will prevent stealing and other social vices”, he lamented.

He therefore appealed to President Akuffo-Addo and other stakeholders to come to their aid and give them the permit to do the community mining.
