Western Region Records 155 Road Crashes With 20 Deaths In Two Months

Western Region Director of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Nana Akua Ansah has hinted that a total of one-hundred and fifty-five (155) road accidents were recorded in the month of January 2021 alone in the Western Region.

Meanwhile, a total of twenty (20) persons died in January 2021 from road crashes representing an appreciation of fourteen (14) deaths that were recorded in January 2020.

Out of the twenty persons who have died in 2021, eighteen (18) were males and two (2) were females.

Nana Akua Ansah who made this known in an interview with Spice News pointed out that fifty-seven (57) commercial vehicles were involved in accidents, with a total of forty-one (41) motorcycles also recording accidents.

She added that some fifty-seven (57) private vehicles were also involved in various forms of accidents in January 2021 as against seventy-two (72) in the year 2020.

According to her, comparing the road accident statistics in January 2021, a total of twenty (20) people were killed as against fourteen who were killed in the same period of 2020. 

She further stated that the Authority has recorded thirty-one (31) serious cases of road accidents in 2021 as against thirty-nine (39) last year while the total number of commercial cars involved in these accidents was fifty-seven (57) in January this year as against eighty-two (82) last year. 

Meanwhile, fifty-seven (57) private vehicles were involved in the accidents cases recorded this year as against seventy-two (72) recorded last year. 

Forty-one (41) motorcycles were also involved in accidents this year while forty-four (44) cases were recorded last year.

She therefore advised drivers and other road users to abide by the road safety rules when using the roads. 

She noted that the majority of the accidents recorded were largely blamed on drivers and stressed that road crashes could only be reduced when drivers are cautious on the road.
