We’re Poised To Register New People If Ghana Card Would Be Used For Elections-NIA
The Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Professor Ken Attafuah said the Authority is poised to call all backlogs and register new people if the Ghana Card would be used for the 2024 General Elections.
He said, if Parliament gives the Electoral Commission goes ahead, the NIA would be ready since there is ample time, expertise and leadership.
Professor Attafah said during a media engagement said, it will be a tragedy if the Ghana Card is not used for elections in 2024.
This, he said is because the NIA has registered 17. 3 million out of the 19 million people’s projection with a lot of those eligible to vote captured.
The Executive Secretary said those who have not been registered and above 18 years, and those who will turn 18 years could be registered in 6 months.
Professor Attafah also said the Authority will begin the registration of Ghanaians abroad in February next year.
He said Ghanaians in the West African sub-region would pay the equivalent of 30 dollars with those in the rest of Africa, Europe, and America paying 50 dollars.
The payment is part of the revenue module that underpins the public-private engagement on the identity management system.
