UNIDO Assist Ghanaian Businesses To Recover From COVID-19 Shocks

The shocks of COVID-19 have still not completely healed many economies, sectors, and businesses. Some Ghanaian businesses are receiving assistance from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in order to recover more quickly than they otherwise would have.

The goal is to put these Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) in a position to produce more decent jobs.

Given the severity of the Covid-induced crisis, the business recovery recommendations have been developed in a generalized manner in order to be applicable to the greatest number of businesses (MSMEs), or the majority of jobs in the global economy.

According to Dr. Wandzi Gen idol, an international resilience expert, during the Covid virus outbreak, firms had to cease operations and halt operations, cut staffing, or function at the absolute edge of their capacities.

He noted that “it was not just the economic impact of this reduction, it was also because many of these small businesses were involved in the response infrastructure against the pandemic and their ability to sustain operations being reduced with having a direct impact on the overall national ability to tackle the pandemic” was made in response to a question.

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations with the mandate to promote inclusive and sustainable industrial development.
