Twitter Relaunches Paid Blue-Ticks After One Month Pause
After a botched introduction last month, Twitter’s subscription service, which will let users pay to be verified on the platform, will be relaunching on Monday, December 12,2022.
In exchange for the $8 monthly charge, subscribers of Twitter Blue will receive a blue tick badge, the ability to modify tweets, and a number of other features.
The service had initially started last month but was suspended after it was overrun by bad actors who paid for verification and then posted content that were somewhat offensive and abusive while posing as prominent personalities and corporations.
Under new procedure, Twitter has stated that users will be able to modify their account handle and display name, but they will forfeit their verified badge until Twitter has examined their account once more.
A key policy according to new Twitter owner Elon Musk, states that the system would aid in reducing spam on the website because replies from verified accounts would be prioritized over other information.
In order to counterbalance the commission Apple charges for sales made through its App Store, Elon Musk increased the price of Blue ticks ahead of the relaunch, now charging subscribers on Apple’s iOS platform 11 dollars per month.
Additionally, Twitter has also announced that it would start replacing the grey “official” badges on well-known accounts with a gold tick badge for companies and a grey tick badge for government accounts.
The move to be able to sign up to Twitter Blue is expected to begin on Monday, December 12, making it the latest change made by Mr Musk since he took control of the social media platform in October.
Since the takeover, the tech billionaire has already reduced the personnel of the company by more than half, reinstated several previously suspended accounts, including Donald Trump’s, and vowed to remove accounts that have been dormant for extended periods of time in order to free up username space on the website
