The Constitution Has Failed In Creating a Society of Equal Opportunity – #FixTheCountry Convener

#FixTheCountry Convener, Abeiku Adams has said, Ghana’s constitution has not made equal opportunities for the citizenry.

Reacting to President Akuffo Addo’s address on the 30th Anniversary of the Referendum, Abeiku said the constitution seems to favour a certain group of people thus creating disparity amongst citizens.

“Let’s ask ourselves if everyone in this country has a fair opportunity to get employed in any government institution?” he quizzed.

For him, the success of the constitution can be measured based on the opportunities enjoyed by citizens regardless of their educational background, colour and political affiliation.

He lamented the current recruitment of persons into the security agencies where people are made to pay bribes before enrolling on the service.

He disclosed further people’s engagement in bribery and corruption in the ongoing school placement system while emphasizing the system not being fair to a section of Ghanaians.

Abeiku expressed concern about the non-existence of a level playing field for Ghanaians adding that the constitution has failed in such areas of our lives.

He, however, disagreed with the President for saying the country has not experienced coup action in the last thirty years. In his view, the coup happens in different forms and types, where some corrupt individuals have hijacked the system of government, enriching themselves and undermining Ghanaians.

“We cannot measure the success of the constitution by virtue that no coup has been staged in the last thirty years. No.

Coups happen in different forms, there are government leaders who enrich themselves at the expense of those who vote them in power,” he said.

Abeiku observed that there’s less accountability, probity, freedom and justice in the judiciary system calling for the education of some governmental offices.
