Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for the North Tongu constituency in the Volta Region, has expressed his support for the resignations of Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams and Reverend Eastwood Anaba from the Board of Trustees overseeing the construction of Ghana’s National Cathedral.

While visiting his constituents affected by the Akosombo and Kpong Dams spillage, Ablakwa commended the clergymen for their decision to step down.

The clergymen explained their resignation in a statement, citing the government’s failure to appoint an independent accounting firm to audit the public funds contributed to the National Cathedral as the reason.

Ablakwa considers their resignations as confirmation of the concerns he has raised about the project and his call for an independent audit.

He stated, “I want to commend highly the two revered clergymen. Some may say it is delayed, but I will say better later than never because they have covered themselves in glory with this resignation, and it is a clear confirmation of the things I have been talking about.”

Ablakwa further mentioned that an independent parliamentary inquiry will be conducted to delve into the matter in the coming days, as the motion has already been approved and is awaiting the NPP side’s participation.
